Narrative movies have cleared approach to show the truth of life. As a general rule, it gives consciousness of the current circumstance that was not tended to precisely in movies and network shows the same. Narrative, as different talks of the genuine, holds a minimal duty to depict and decipher the universe of aggregate understanding, an obligation that is no little issue by any stretch of the imagination (Nichols, 1991 p. 10). In making a narrative film concerning the network life in a far off outside nation, a few issues would should be tended to. Delegation in Contemporary Democracies

Question: Portray about the Delegation in Contemporary Democracies. Answer: Point, goals and attainability of the paper Assignment is a significant aptitude that ought to be controlled by a supervisor. More often than not in Small and Medium Organizations (SMEs), chiefs neglect to use this aptitude to secure important authoritative advantages. Typically, obligations and complexities identified with the board increments with the development of an association. An administrator should assign viably to get most extreme advantages for an association. As referenced beforehand, obligations and obligations of an administrator increment with time. Along these lines, a supervisor ought to figure out how to assign successfully to concentrate on significant errands and from that point should move the less significant undertakings to the subordinates. Be that as it may, the less significant undertakings likewise requires great measure of time and exertion from the workforce. There is a familiar axiom, ''in the event that you need something done well, do it without anyone's help''. This idea doesn't coordinate with the present societies of SMES. It ought to be remembered that, a powerful assignment builds the hierarchical profitability; in this manner accomplishment of a chief relies upon proficient designation. At the second 50% of the twentieth century, the progression in transportation and advances developed quickly. That is the reason the SMEs should give more worry on the idea of designation to spare time to cultivate advancement. The activity of appointment doesn't just offer points of interest for the association in type of premium profitability yet in addition causes the administration to create legitimate report. It is on the grounds that appropriate exercise of appointment underpins an administrator to concentrate on the most significant task. Then again, the yearly volume of profitability is the marker of whether a director is appropriate for the given position or not. In any case, the job of assignment with respect to the immediate report is, it helps the administration to inspire the representatives through helping them to build up their current aptitudes and to learn new abilities. Additionally, it is the route through which the executives causes workers to comprehend their qua lity and shortcoming. Despite what might be expected, carelessness upon the act of appointment could bring negative impacts. Without a well-suited sense on appointment, an administration gets scattered and winds up in offering need to the less significant errands. A directors failure to keep up designation harms the nature of authoritative efficiency and diminishes the odds to comply with the time constraint. The correct method to increase an appointed administration is through observing administrations movement and by giving potential duties to distinguish whether he is doing according to the desire or not. There are numerous sorts of research and articles, which have examined the connection between a viable appointment and accomplishment of the SMEs by and large. The focal point of this specific research will be to decide if there is a solid connection between successful assignments and the improvement procedure of representative aptitudes for sparing time and increment hierarchical efficiency or not. The point of the exploration is to distinguish and investigate one of the primary elements of the disappointments of SMES, which is administrations powerlessness to assign. The examination will think about the accompanying inquiries: What is the connection between compelling appointment and the accomplishment of SMEs? How assignment adds to the accomplishment of SMEs? How assignment assists with sparing time and grow new aptitudes for the worker? For what reason do supervisors in SMEs regularly neglect to follow and apply designation in the every day undertakings? Before the finish of the examination, the scientist wants to make a determination to show the significance of the relationship among compelling assignment and created worker aptitudes. Additionally, the investigation expects to distinguish the most ideal approaches to apply appointment in the every day assignments of SMES. Besides, I trust that the Furthermore, I trust that the exploration study can concentrate on recognizing the explanation behind which a large portion of the chiefs in SMES neglects to keep up this viewpoint fittingly. Writing audit Designation is one of the fundamental abilities for the supervisor to lessen remaining burden. Assignment shows the responsibility to apportion certain errands to the mindful one (Heller, 1998; Mentor, 2008). Huge numbers of the past investigations and scholastic articles have concurred that the fundamental reason for appointment is to build administrator's time and lessening remaining burden. The assets incorporate, Heller, 1998, How to assign; Mentor, 2008, Delegating work; and Fleming, The job of viable appointment in proficient and hierarchical achievement. In any case, there are different investigations those have analyzed the motivation behind designation in subtleties. The majority of the articles have concurred that the designation is one of the fundamental abilities for the director to spare the activity time and to help starting the improvement procedure for the workers. Executing compelling appointment has positive outcomes for the supervisor alongside for the workers. (Fl eming; and Mentor, 2008); they talk about the advantages of viable assignment in subtleties. Be that as it may, (Heller, 1998; and Stanley); they have not referenced the benefits of compelling designation in their articles. Both Fleming and Mentor concurred that the basic advantages of powerful assignment have a place with the supervisor to ''Improve the degree of trust and correspondence among director and representative, and accomplish objectives that necessary agreeable collective endeavor''. Further, Fleming adds some extra advantages identified with the chief, for example, ''permitting the director to concentrate on the undertakings that required his particular mastery; expanding the administrator's optional time'' (Fleming, The job of powerful designation in proficient and authoritative achievement). Coach said that an representative would increase same advantages as the director. Conversely, Fleming expressed that the worker could have additional advantages from powerful assignment adjacent to the past ones, for example, '' improving representative enthusiasm; building certainty and trusts; giving authority over enacts and choices; and giving development openings'' (Fleming, The job of compelling appointment in proficient and authoritative achievement). Nonetheless, the association will obtain profits by compelling designation by setting aside cash through guaranteeing that errands are relegated to the ideal individuals at the correct level. It will expand generally profitability and productivity of the representatives by utilizing authoritative assets. The creators (for examples Mentor, 2008; Fleming; Stanley; and other) have not examined the aftereffects of keeping away from powerful appointment. Heller in 1998 notices that the expense of staying away from appointment, for example, spending numerous hours to finish low need assignments can bring forth a scattered domain. Further, the creators of the checked on writing don't cover and talk about two primary concerns, which are the means by which the appointment adds to spare time and grow new abilities for representatives. The second focuses that isn't secured and tended to were the purpose for a large portion of the administrations inability to follow and apply assignment in the every day undertakings. Consequently, the past two focuses are recognized as the hole writing. The writers of designation articles (Mentor, 2008; Heller, 1998; and other) have concentrated on the ideas of appointment; the motivation behind assignment; assignment rules; checking procedure; and improvement aptitudes. By and by, Iancn (2012), has added another point to the designation, which is the contemporary ramifications on assignment. Moreover, Braun and Gilardi (2006), in their book The Delegation in Contemporary Democracies have examined to some degree one that the standard chain of assignment is comparable with the conversation made by the past writers. Partially two, they have concentrated on their point and have examined the significance of designation in administrative organizations in western Europe. When all is said in done, the writing survey is connected with certain points, for example, ideas of appointment; advantages of designation; rule of powerful assignment; and numerous different subjects. Conversely, the principle contrasts between these articles are found in the diverse method of talking about viewpoints on appointing errands as each writer has various encounters and various methodologies. Research approach and strategies The contextual analysis will make top to bottom examination of the impact of designation for sparing association time and creating representative aptitudes. Furthermore, the exploration will analyze finding of a neighborhood contextual analysis done by the global examinations. It is recognized that there are restricted looks into those have done constrained examination and investigation of nearby SMES. A large portion of the examinations on the theme has been accomplished for paper reason or scholarly purposes. As per the information of the General Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises, there are around 18600 foundations toward the finish of 2015. In Oman, the SMEs molded 90% of a business foundation. The subsequent kind is little ventures, which are contained five to nine representatives with yearly income of 2 50,000 OMR. The last sort is the medium-undertakings. The medium-undertakings comprise of ten to ninety-nine workers and its yearly income is for the most part between 250,000 OMR to 1 million OMR. The quantitative research strategy is the reasonable research technique for gathering and investigating the information. The examination will assess the essential information gathered, which are gathered from the first sources; studies and meetings. An enormous number of tests with respect to the investigation will be chosen cautiously to address the examination questions. As indicated by the General Authorities of SMEs, there are around 18600 foundations. Hence, because of the high number of SMEs in Oman, the orderly examining is the appropriate strategy for choosing the quantity of SMEs. Number of SMEs = 18600 Test size = 375 Required example = 18600/375 = 50. Th

The Interconnectedness Of Cultural Anthropology And Folk...

The chief concern of this paper is to explore the interconnectedness of cultural anthropology and folk literature. There are many essays that have already shown the interrelationship between folklore and anthropology1. Both these umbrella terms have many things in common but when it comes to folk literature and cultural anthropology, some distinctions become apparent. To say, hence, this paper is different in a sense that instead of dealing with the broad areas of folklore and anthropology, it looks at their branches and explores interconnectedness between them. Before moving further, one needs to understand the area of folklore and folk literature. American Folklore Society (AFS) defines folklore as â€Å"the traditional art, literature, knowledge, and practice that is disseminated largely through oral communication and behavioral example†. It clearly hints that folklore is a broad term which includes all the types of expressions whether oral, written, visual, or performative . This leads to an inference that folk literature is one of the branches of folklore which deals with verbal and written expressions. Similarly, anthropology is a jacket term which means a study of humanity including the prehistoric to contemporary, whereas the cultural anthropology is one of its four branches which aims to understand and define why a certain group behaves differently from the other group. These clarifications lead to another inference that though both anthropology and folklore study humanShow MoreRelatedOne Significant Change That Has Occurred in the World Between 1900 and 2005. Approach to Systems Development-Free-Samples-Myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Disucss about the information System All Sports Club Information System (ASCIS). Answer: Introduction Allsports is a multi-sport organization that has a huge number of members that are engaged in different types of sporting activities. The company publishes its newsletter on a weekly basis. There are certain problems that are associated with the current system in terms of information management, storage, and processing. An automated system, All Sports Club Information System (ASCIS) has been recommended to overcome the problems with the current system. The aim of the report is to cover the details of the new information system such as the system development approach, project cost benefit analysis and schedule along with system requirements and investigation techniques. Approach to Systems Development All Sports Club Information System (ASCIS) can be developed by using a number of different approaches and methodologies. There are primarily two categories of approaches that are applied as predictive approach or adaptive approach. In case of ASCIS, the approach that has a higher degree of applicability is the adaptive approach for system development. It is because of the nature of the requirements that shall be implemented in the system. The members that are engaged with ASCIS may increase or decrease in number which is sure to have an impact on the frequency of the newsletters that are shared. It will be required for the system to be dynamic in nature so as to handle the variations in the information management and the data operations. Adaptive approach to system development such as agile methodology will be apt in the case of ASCIS as the methodology will be able to handle the dynamic nature of the requirements (Subramaniam, 2007). It will allow the system to be flexible and scalable in nature which will ensure that the changes in terms of the scope or related project factors are met with ease. The project client will also be updated regularly regarding the project status and project progress and will also be asked for the feedback. In such a manner, the end-product that will be delivered and deployed in the form of ASCIS will be as per the specifications provided by the client. The information storage that will be included in the system will also be as per the changing nature of storage necessities in the system (Williams, 2007). 3. Systems Requirements Functional Requirements The system shall provide the users with the ability to login. The system shall have the ability to store member details as demographic information and the details of the sports that they play. The system must store newsletters with their date of submission, title of the article, and file name and advertiser details as the mandatory attributes (Turner, Maylor and Swart, 2013). Advertiser demographics and contact details must be stored in the system. The system must create, store and provide the ability to extract the reports including member details, advertiser information, details of the newsletters along with the article details. The system must create alerts before the due date of the publishing of a newsletter to ensure that there are no delays (Bredillet, 2005). The information associated with the members who have published or edited the newsletters shall be visible on the basis of filters such as member id or email address. Non-Functional Requirements The system shall be scalable in nature to ensure that it may be modified as per the changing nature of requirements. The system shall always be available to the users to allow them to view, share or edit the information. The system shall be secure in nature so that the information that is stored is always protected (Anshin, 2013). Reliability shall be included in the system to make sure that there is valid information that is presented as a response to the user action or the query made by the user. The system shall be easy to maintain and the support activities that are carried out must also be convenient to execute. Project Cost Benefit Analysis Cost-Benefit Analysis is one of the most significant estimates that are carried out in the projects. It is necessary to have an account of the probable costs and expenses that may be spent during the project timeline along with the corresponding benefits that will be gained. In case of All Sports Club Information System (ASCIS), the overall budget that has been estimated is $60,000. The discount factor that is applicable in this project is 6%. It has also been estimated that the staffing costs will reduce by $2,000 on a monthly basis. It will be because of the reason that there will an enhanced use of automation that will be carried out replacing the problems that are present with the current system. This in return will enhance the income by $1,000. The overall profitability that will come out as a result will be $3,000 (Canils and Romijn, 2008). The budget that has been estimated includes the cost of maintenance which will be $1,200 per month making it $14,400 on a yearly basis. There will also be a one-time cost of tools that will be spent along with the cost of resources, development and designing cost, deployment and testing costs along with the closure costs. Project Schedule Work Breakdown Structure Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) is the tool that is used to represent the project schedule and the project activities in the form of packages and sub-packages. The tool is used to estimate the project schedule and also tracks the completion of the activities that are involved. The cost estimation can also be done using WBS. Gantt chart is another tool which is used to represent the project activities in the form of a timeline. The timeline represents the project activities and the resources that are assigned to each activity. WBS and Gantt chart have a close association with each other as both of these tools are used to track the project progress and also aid in the processes of estimations regarding the project (Parnell, 2008). The project schedule that has been estimated for the project is reasonable as the allocation of the hours that shall be spent on the completion of the activities is as per the effort that is required to be put in. Also, the activities have been estimated in such a manner that the budget that has been allocated for the project does not exceed. The schedule has been created in such a way that there is a proper allocation of the resources done without any cases of over-lapping or over-loading. System Information Requirement Investigation Techniques Project Stakeholders Project Client: The client will be interested in the project as the system will overcome the issues with the current system and will enhance the quality of the operations resulting in better performance and results. End-Users: The system will allow the easier management of the information and the operations leading to higher satisfaction and engagement (Stead, 2008). Project Manager: The project manager will be responsible and accountable for project planning, closure and analysis activities. The project success or failure will have a direct impact on the project manager. Project Team Members: The project resources will be responsible and accountable for all of the operational tasks and activities. The project success or failure will have a direct impact on the project resources. Information Investigation Techniques Interviews: The technique will allow the system stakeholders to gain information regarding the project in terms of the functional and non-functional requirements and specifications. It will be done through the designing of the interview questions and conduction of the process by receiving the responses and recording of the same. Brainstorming: This technique will allow the generation and exploration of the new ideas and concepts. It will be done through a process of group discussions with the relevant stakeholders to retrieve meaningful information. Observation: There will be a lot of data that will be present with the organizations in the form of historical data and references along with the existing operations. The technique will include the practical observation of the processes carried out to understand the problems in the current system and implement the required changes in the new system. Conclusions The project of All Sports Club Information Systems (ASCIS) is a step towards the use and application of the latest technology in the business activities to overcome the issues and problems that are involved with the current system. The project is required to be completed in the estimated schedule and budget constraints to make sure that the timely delivery of the system is made successfully. The project brings forward the significance of the project phases as planning and analysis. These phases form the strong base that is required to be created in order to achieve project success. The information regarding the project requirements shall be investigated as per the apt technique. References Anshin, V. (2013). Karson Mingo Essays - Emotions, Evolutionary Psychology, Fear

Karson Mingo Mr. Parry English IV 13 November 2017 Fear Fear, on the most personal level, can completely control your life. It paralyzes you from being able to resist nothing more than mental restrain. It prohibits you from being able to truly express yourself in hope you spare yourself embarrassment from peers. In my life there are few physical things that I fear as they seem more as abstract concepts. Many kids my age fear going off to college and being on their own. However, that feeling of being an independent seems as just another experience for me to live. The things that I'm able to take head on are not scary at all to me but more social and personal interactions are the things I fear. When I was five I was first fitted for my glasses. Thinking to myself that I would finally be able to read I thought nothing of the social harassment that would ensue. Over the next three years on a daily basis I was called names, had rocks and dog poop thrown at me, and when I decided to fight back heavily pummeled by older kids. Eventually, I was able to talk my parents into buy my contacts. Sometimes when I ran out of my contacts I would "forget" my glasses at home so I would not have to wear them. Even today I only wear my contacts because I get afraid of wearing glasses. Obviously today I know that no one is going to throw dog poop at me but I have never had the confidence to wear them just because of the fear of something like that happening again. I fear failure in anything I do. Whether its athletically, academically, or in everyday life the last thing I want to do is not succeed. Football wise, during the season I was given astronomical expectations from teammates, coaches, and even local sports writers. At first the expectations were daunting and even scared me a little. Instead of trying to handle the pressure of the expectations by myself I talked to players from previous years to see how they handled the spot light. Eventually once the season started the feeling of having underclassmen look up to me in high pressure situations become normal for me. Instead of being afraid of the expectations, I was embracing them. On top of compiling a senior season earing an All-Area Player of the Year nomination, All-Region consideration, and college football scholarship offers, I earned respect. Respect from teammates, the coaches, but most importantly myself. By telling myself there was essentially no other option tha n embracing the reality of the goals set and not being scared of them, we were able to accomplish a lot during the season. One specific example of this was during our first game of the year. We were losing pretty quickly and people of the team immediately thought the world was ending and started panicking. Instead of allowing them to be down and afraid, with the help of Leo we calmly explained how we were essentially better at football and life than our opponents and we ended up winning 72-14 and went on to win our next seven games. While I don't fear the part of college of going off and being on my own, being denied by colleges is scary. The thought of twelve grinding and miserable years of school almost being a wash because colleges today really only want to look at over valued standardized tests is awful. It almost calls for saying "that's not fair" but as I am told by my parents daily " life's not fair get used to it". For me up until this year my dream school was LSU (Louisiana State University). Ever since I was five it was my dream destination after high school. Unfortunately or fortunately, I've had change of heart because now my goal is to play football in college and LSU is above my pay grade in that regard. However, before my change of heart when I was dead set on LSU, the thought of failing to be accepted gave me actual chest and brain pains. The school isn't a total breeze to get

The jazz age essays

The jazz age essays In spite of social and economic upheaval, the 1900s prospered as a whole. The 1920s were marked by technological, historical, literary, and political, phenomena. Society was experiencing a new way of life, characterized by new technology that enabled Americans to kick back and enjoy all life had to offer. During the 1920s, the United States started off on a joyride in an era of wonderful nonsense (World Book Encyclopedia p.114). Americans felt lighthearted and optimistic after WWI. New advances in technology were invented like the Model T and canned foods. People spent more money on travel and vacation resorts. They announced a new generation with jazz bands and a craze for sports and dances. Life in the home was also affected. Ready-made clothing, and household appliances gave women the opportunity to release themselves from everyday drudgery. More women began to seek work outside of home. Daring girls nicknamed flappers shocked the older and more traditional members of society. Their short skirts, bobbed hair, and public use of cigarettes were frenetic compared to the previous style of that time. In 1919, Amendment 18 to the Constitution prohibited the manufacture and sale of liquor. This marked a turning point in Americas history. Many people resented this new law and drank in illegal clubs called speak-easies. Gangsters took over bootlegging and crime increased. The federal government found it almost impossible to enforce prohibition, mainly because society had such a strong opposition towards it. The Jazz Age was a golden period in American literature, distinguished by the works of such writers as Willa Cather, William Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Sinclair Lewis, and Carl Sandburg. At the same time, American writers began to influence world literature. A period of disillusion and cynicism that followed WWI found expression in the writings of a grou...

Science Fiction and Film Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Science Fiction and Film - Essay Example The two films The Matrix and Contact display evidence that the above claim is true. Two of the greatest messages of The Matrix is the loss of individuality and the threat of knowledge - the two categories that John Baxter is convinced comprises of the entire science fiction genre. The premises of The Matrix is that human beings are kept in pods, feeding the machines as though they were batteries, while being given memories and experiences that are purely mental, as opposed to physical, which is a huge aspect of the human experience. While the human beings in the Matrix may appear to be individuals, living their lives and doing their own thing, they are all in the same situation in the real world. They are nude bodies, sleeping in pods, being fed memories while being completely unaware of this. There is no individuality in this film. The twist in The Matrix is that there are hundreds of people that are â€Å"free† from this imprisonment and understand what happened to them before they were able to be freed. Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus, to name a few, are among those that were lucky enough to be freed from the battery emporium of the machines. No longer connected to the contraption that feeds their minds memories that are not actually real, these people define what it means to be individuals. As they now have no part of what makes the other people lose their individuality, they act as a comparison/contrast against those that are still connected to the machines. The Matrix is a great example of what it means to be lacking individuality due to the fact that it also offers glimpses of the other side of the argument. Although the goal of the characters in The Matrix involves freeing themselves and others from the grasp of the machines, another goal can be seen as gaining back their individuality. The digital self that every human being sees is the individuality and uniqueness that they would have if the machines

Greek mythology Essay Example for Free

Greek mythology Essay Engels biography is a display of such scientific course. His early life had been the explanation why he came about with his voluminous works on history. His works were a summation of the different implications of the facts how he was raised and intended of him to become, his experiences, and his direct contact with the production process and later in complete absorption to the revolutionary struggle in the industrial West. Friedrich Engels was born in Barmen, Prussia to a family of bourgeois origins in September 28, 1820. At that moment, Europe was at the height of the development of the industrial era and wars of conquest for the accumulation of market, labour and resources for the bourgeois economy. It was a time of rapid changes ensuing on all borders. Expansion of industrial interests was grappling Europe. Colonies in Asia, Africa and Latin America were continuously ransacked while the European continent was in a constant scrabble of migration from different nations in search of industrial work. Indeed an era of accumulation of wealth and technological advances to improve productivity . With these changes in the economic landscape came the winds of liberal thought. New machines that were never seen before were conceived side by side with political ideas never heard before. Thus the revolutionized industry became a breeding ground for a revolutionary spectre. Friedrich Engels was never detached from these changes. From his childhood until his intellectual career was on its full bloom, the economic transformations in Europe became the solid foundations of Marxist historiography. His nascent years had been vital for the development of his future philosophical pursuit. In his poem â€Å"To My Grandfather†, written December 20, 1833, Friedrich had shown his early acquaintances in history through stories in the Greek mythology which he described as â€Å"many a beautiful story† that his grandfather had told him . Another untitled poem written 3 years after described characters in stories from all over Europe seen by young Friedrich as â€Å"pictures to delight† . He was an observer and the environment drew much attention from him. Once he wrote about the conditions in Wuppertal, one of his first attempts to explain the seemingly complicated miseries of the working class , even the columns of a building and the style of architecture did not escape his watch. It was the beginning of his acquisition of his most powerful weapon in his revolutionary battle – excellence in textual conveyance. Not only was it a peek to his future history inclinations but also his superb literary talent that has greatly manifested in his works. In such a young age, Engels had learned that his wealth was a curse. The environment in which Friedrich Engels lived was full of stark contradictions. External factors greatly affected his inner resolve. His father, a German textile mill owner, wanted him to become an industrialist too like himself. Knowing in his self that he was not fit for that kind of life, a strained relationship developed between them. A supporter of the Prussian government, Friedrich’s father held conservative views in politics and religion which were attributed to his Protestant Pietist devotion. He enrolled Friedrich in local Pietist schools where he was indoctrinated with narrow fundamentalist views of society. Those were never acceptable to his broad interests. Hoping that the radical youth in Friedrich could still be doused with cold waters of isolation, he was sent to Bremen before he finished his high school studies to work as a clerk. These efforts were put to waste. There he exhibited despise to autocracy and religion, enjoyed life at its fullest and studied literature, philosophy, theology and history . Engels was drawn to the democratic struggles that were gaining political momentum at that time. Using a pen name of Friedrich Oswald, he participated in the literary movement. His first work, a poem titled â€Å"The Bedouin † was published in the Bremisches Conversationsblatt No. 40. In September 1838 and many other literary works and commentaries proceeded thereafter. As an active radical, Engels wrote articles for the democratic movement while attending lectures at Berlin University with his military service all at the same time. When he moved to Berlin to join the Household Artillery of the Prussian Army, he already had attractions to the Young Hegelians .

Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often offered to small-time offenders as an alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is the vital force to many communities since they depend on the service made by the volunteers to be able to grow (The Importance of Volunteers). Nowadays, the words â€Å"community service† and â€Å"volunteering† are being used constantly. People tend to forget or misunderstand the real meaning or significance of volunteering. By exploring the history and significance of volunteering in the United States, people can develop a culture of volunteering and enric h their lives and make a positive social contribution. Hidalgo Resturant, Inc: Succeeding As An Entrepreneur Essay

I. VISION A. Vision Statement â€Å"For everyone who works with us to discover in themselves their talent and their potential and to build relationship with each other† B. Comments Vision statements should answer the question â€Å"What do we want to become.† But Hidalgo’s vision statement does not answer that question. It doesn’t even mention what kind of business they are into. C. Proposed Vision Statement To be the preferred restaurant of Filipinos and expatriates, providing total customer satisfaction through quality, service, cleanliness, and value. II. MISSION A. Mission Statement Hidalgo Restaurant, Inc. doesn’t have specific mission statement B. Comments A Mission Statement reflects the company’s core purpose, identity, values and principle business aims. A Mission is defined as ‘Purpose, reason for being’. Defined simply â€Å"Who we are and what we do.† Mission statements should possess nine (9) components which are (1) customers, (2) products or services (3) markets, (4) technology, (5) Concern for survival, growth, and profitability, (6) philosophy, (7) self – concept, (8) concern for public image, and (9) concern for employees. C. Proposed Mission Statement We are committed to provide total customer satisfaction and exceed customer’s expectations through setting the trend in raising the bar, to be the change agents contributing directly to the country’s development, creating standards of excellence which every Filipino may aspire, to be in the business of building relationships and partnerships, among which one partner is the customer, in order to maximize earnings that will benefit our supplier, employees, and investors. III. EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT ANALYSIS The restaurant sub-sector includes places that serve food and drinks, be it self-service or full-service. This covers a range of services including fine dining specialty restaurants, fast food outlets, canteens, and food courts. In terms of its contribution to the national economy, the hotel and restaurant industry accounted for 1.35% of Philippines’ 1998 gross domestic product (PHP12 billion in GVA compared to the Philippine’s PHP889 billion GDP during the period) and 1.28% of its national product (PHP12 billion in GVA compared to the PHP931 billion GNP). Moreover, the hotel and restaurant industry employed about 1% (282,142) of the country’s 31,278,000 labor force during the same period. Meanwhile, the National Statistics Office (NSO) in 1994, classified 46,930 firms as belonging to the hotel and restaurant industry, employing a total of 221,954 people. At the time, each peso investment in labor contributed PHP4.40 to the industry’s total output while ea ch peso investment yielded a PHP1.27 contribution to the same. A. Economic Forces Restaurant patrons cross all economic groups. Fast foods and food courts cater to all income classes. Specialty fine dining restaurants, generally target the A, B, and C crowd. The proliferation of one-stop shopping malls that offer various recreational facilities and amenities is also an important growth factor. The heavy pedestrian traffic that the malls attract means big business for the restaurant industry, particularly the fast food sub-sector. Moreover, these malls spare the restaurant industry from spending extensive business development studies for their outlets; mall magnates Henry Sy and John Gokongwei Jr. have established formidable track records in building malls. Finally, Filipino communities abroad are strong basis for the export of local restaurants and fast food technology. The presence of Goldilocks, Jollibee, Max, Red Ribbon, and Barrio Fiesta, among others, in the US, for example, is a result of demand from Filipino migrants longing for a taste for home. B. Social, Cultural, and Demographic Forces The urban population to which restaurants cater is largely made up of young people who have higher disposable incomes and who are more likely to experiment with different cuisine. Brand loyalty is particularly strong in the fast food sub-sector of the restaurant industry. Jollibee patrons, for example, generally stay loyal to the franchise regardless of price increases. Demand for dining out is associated with both the ever-expanding options available, and also with the number one reason most consumers use restaurants: they provide a convenient, reasonably priced experience that offers better flavors and taste sensations than consumers can get at home. This has become particularly critical at a time when more and more women are entering the workforce and consequently have less time to prepare meals at home. Moreover, the Philippine population is youth-oriented. Almost half of the estimated 75 million Filipinos are below 18. And since a large proportion of fast food consumers is betwe en the ages of 16-24, the annual 2.3% population growth rate guarantees market growth for the sub-sector. C. Political, Legal, and Governmental Forces Strong support of industry associations and trade unions (i.e., Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines and the NWHUAI) enable the hotel industry, among other things, to undertake programs and projects that upgrade and professionalize the sector and to influence government regulatory policies/laws/rules affecting the industry. D. Technological Forces International food chains and franchises facilitate transfer of technology in the local restaurant sub-sector. They provide training of potential employees and employ strict quality control systems. In terms of availability of technology, the Philippine market is highly competitive with numerous products and brands offered at reasonable prices, and, therefore, allowing restaurant owners the luxury of choosing the type of technology that best suit their operations. Equipment purchasing decisions depend on the type of end-user. For instance, local single-unit restaurants need inexpensive equipment, so price is the main guiding factor. On the other hand, fine dining restaurants are willing to pay a premium for high quality, durability, after-sales service, cost effectiveness, reputable supplier and fast delivery. Restaurant owners regularly participate in local and international equipment trade fairs, allowing them access to the latest hotel equipment technology. E. Competitive Forces There are about 45,220 restaurant establishments in the domestic economy and about 80% of them belong to the fast food sub-sector. Food franchising is extremely popular. There are 1,057 franchised quick serve restaurants, 14 casual dining and theme restaurants, and 507 coffee shops, bakeries, and confectioneries. The industry in which the restaurant and fast food firms operate has increasing consumer demand for every improving product. The growth is proven by the rapid expansion of food outlets in key areas in Metro Manila and the provinces. The popularity of fast food establishments came in the 1980’s, and over the last years, the industry has consistently posted double-digit growth rates. Competition is fierce in the restaurant industry, particularly the fast food sub-sector. The market is large but consumers are price conscious and exhibit brand loyalty. With a wide range of restaurants and fast food establishments to choose from, pricing schemes and marketing strategies determine market shares. Market strategies of industry players, therefore, aim to achieve two primary objectives: 1) hammer in â€Å"value-for-money† concepts; and 2) create brand consciousness and loyalty. Market shares in the restaurants are won or lost in pricing. Industry players regularly offer price cuts and discounts to lure in new customers. Moreover, major players invest heavily in advertising to create brand consciousness and loyalty. Marketing strategies include raffle draws, free gift items and specially prized meal combinations, discounted toys and school items for every certain minimum food purchase. Celebrity endorsements are used in the hopes that the market will identify with the endorser. Likewise, intense competition urges players to come up with new products to capture bigger market shares. Restauranteurs have to be keen at finding the latest food and wine concoctions here and abroad and adapting them to local taste. Targeting the Filipino’s tastebuds, several fastfood chains that usually serve only western food have introduced items that appeal to the local market’s palate. Raising quality standards and improving service have also been focal points of competition, particularly in the fast food sub-sector. Players give incentives and compensations to motivate employees to be efficient on their jobs and thus help maintain the fast food outlet’s high standards of quality service and cleanliness. Also, a major importance in a fast food and restaurant is courteous and friendly personnel. Not surprisingly, speedy service is among the more salient attributes people would highly expect from a fast food restaurant.
